Week 2

Week 2, what a week this has to be our busiest week to date, Monday we did our mood boards, mine was on the topic of military I chose to look at the more period style of military focusing on gold, red, seeds that kind of thing I also looked at braiding, patterns and colors.  We also got our brief for our next project, which is Visions in Black and White, where we are investigating using a limited palette and methods of fabric/paper manipulation, I am really looking forward to working in a restricted pallet as this is where I enjoy working as I feel comfortable especially working in black and white. Tuesday we went through the joys of assessment in a wonderful presentation by Sarah, we did learn the processes that we will need to go through to if we need extra time etc so it was a useful exercise. Wednesday was illustrator where we reworked on our divers and then made weather symbols, found this a lot better than the week before.

WEEK 1

Week 1, started with the holiday project critic, we all displayed our work on the desks and gave us the opportunity to see the work of our peers, seeing how they work was a nice way to get to know each other. however it was very uncomfortable wouldn't you find it strange having people critic your work whilst you were standing there?? was a very strange thing for me, as i am not used to such upfront and personal criticism. Tuesday saw our IT induction with Jamie, this again was useful, as I am new to apple macs so was nice to have the opportunity to get used to them and get to know Jamie as he is one of our tutors for PPRD, however finding this blog aspect of that module a little difficult any tips on blogging anyone?? Thursday saw my most favourite moment on the course so far PATTERN CUTTING!! Currently we are making a block bodice, in a size 12,  which sounds rather challenging.  This was my most anticipated moment on the course as i was really unsure on how i would take to it seeing as i had such little textile knowledge however i loved it, got great support from the tutors which helped you grasp it and the demonstrations are just how i learn so was a great way for me to learn. absolutely loved this unit and cant wait for next week shame we have to wait so long, damm you group A who are in tomorrow:(

Here are a few snaps from our pattern cutting masterclass!!

Induction Week

Induction week  was my first week at AUCB, there was a range of meetings, seminars in which we could  familiarize our selfs with the workings of the university. It also gave us the opportunity to spend  time with the different people on my course and get to know the running of my department. The department trip to the beach was a great way for us to bond as a group, especially over the distance we travelled on our feet and the sights we saw, however it was most beneficial for us to have something like this, as the nature of our course means we will be working closely with each other and this was a good activity to go through. Overall I think I really gained a great deal of information from the week but also felt ready to start my course as I knew what was coming up and the facilities that I would be using! Thanks AUCB for a useful and informative start!
